EPC Business Development Manager
Job Description
1. About Abodex
Abodex is a specialized supplier of high-precision fluid-handling and dosing pump packages, serving global process industries through engineering-led, application-specific solutions. We partner with leading EPC contractors and end-users to deliver reliable, compliant, and cost-effective packages from concept through commissioning.
2. Role Overview
The EPC Business Development Manager is Abodex’s commercial face to major EPC contractors. This is a hunter role with a mandate to build high-value relationships, drive brand awareness through structured outreach, and convert project opportunities into confirmed Dosing Pump package orders. The role requires equal comfort in a senior engineering discussion and a commercial negotiation room.
3. Key Responsibilities
A. Relationship Management with EPC Companies
Build and maintain active, senior-level relationships with target EPC contractors: L&T, Technip Energies, Tecnimont, Worley, Toyo Engineering, and Wood Group.
Map each EPC’s procurement hierarchy, key decision-makers (Project Managers, Lead Engineers, Category Buyers), and project gate timelines.
Conduct regular customer visits, technical discussions, and review meetings to position Abodex as a preferred and reliable package vendor.
Drive or maintain Abodex’s inclusion on Approved Vendor Lists (AVL) of all target EPC companies, coordinating registration and re-qualification as required.
B. Brand Leveraging & Market Presence
Plan, organize, and deliver in-house technical seminars and product demonstrations at EPC offices, engaging their engineering and procurement teams.
Conduct regional seminars across Chennai and Mumbai to present Abodex’s capabilities, references, and product range to prospective clients.
Represent Abodex at industry events, trade exhibitions, and engineering forums relevant to the process and energy sector.
Collaborate with internal teams to develop application-specific collateral, case studies, and capability presentations tailored to EPC audiences.
C. Sales Execution & Business Conversion
Identify, qualify, and track project opportunities from early FEED through detailed engineering phases using disciplined CRM practice.
Convert identified opportunities into confirmed purchase orders for Dosing Pump packages, achieving or exceeding defined order intake targets.
Prepare and present competitive techno-commercial proposals ensuring compliance with EPC project specifications and delivery schedules.
Lead commercial negotiations on pricing, delivery terms, and contract conditions in coordination with internal engineering and commercial teams.
Deliver monthly pipeline forecasts, win/loss analysis, and market intelligence reports to the Sales Head.
4. Experience & Technical Profile
Sales Experience
Approximately 5 years of project sales experience with EPC contractors in oil & gas, petrochemical, or process industry sectors.
Demonstrable track record of selling mechanical or package items to EPC-driven customers with project-based procurement cycles.
Familiarity with EPC procurement workflows: ITB/RFQ handling, technical bid evaluation, L1 negotiations, and purchase order terms.
Technical Background
Degree in Mechanical /Chemical Engineering or an allied technical discipline (preferred).
Working knowledge of centrifugal pumps and positive-displacement pump packages, including selection parameters, API/ISO standards, and skid configurations.
Understanding of Dosing Pump packages – application requirements, chemical compatibility, control philosophies, and integration into process skids.
Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, equipment data sheets, and EPC technical specifications.
Industry Knowledge
Understanding of project execution phases: FEED, detailed engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning.
Awareness of EPC project hierarchies, vendor qualification requirements, and procurement gate processes in the Indian and international EPC market.
5. Soft Skills & Personal Attributes
Self-Motivated: Proactively drives own pipeline development without needing leads handed down; operates with entrepreneurial energy.
Persistent: Resilient through long EPC project cycles, delayed decisions, and multi-month RFQ processes; maintains consistent follow-through.
Results-Oriented: Focused on confirmed order value, not just activity metrics; takes accountability for targets with a strong closing instinct.
Relationship Intelligence: Builds genuine trust with technical buyers, engineering leads, and senior procurement managers.
Effective Communicator: Articulates technical value propositions clearly to both engineering and procurement audiences; confident in seminar and boardroom settings.
Organized & Disciplined: Maintains accurate CRM records, meets internal forecasting deadlines, and tracks multiple live opportunities simultaneously.
Collaborative: Works constructively across estimation, engineering, and project execution teams without creating internal silos.
6. Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical, Chemical, or equivalent technical discipline.
Existing active contacts within at least two of the target EPC companies (L&T, Technip, Tecnimont, Worley, Toyo, Wood).
Proficiency in CRM tools (Salesforce, Zoho, or equivalent) for structured opportunity tracking.
Experience in preparing detailed techno-commercial proposals, comparing competitive bids, and supporting commercial negotiations.
Willingness to travel regularly to client offices, project sites, and regional EPC hubs across India.
7. Location
This position is based in Chennai or Mumbai. The role involves frequent travel to EPC project offices, regional client locations, and industry events across India. Candidates should be domiciled in – or willing to relocate to – either city.
