Procurement Engineer – Global Sourcing Full Time NEW

The Procurement Engineer is responsible for sourcing and procuring direct and indirect materials to meet business requirements in terms of Quality, Cost, Delivery, and Sustainability (QCDS). The role involves supplier identification, commercial negotiations, cost optimization, supplier development, and cross-functional collaboration to support production, new product development, and localization initiatives while ensuring compliance with company policies and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Sourcing & Procurement

– Develop and implement sourcing strategies for assigned commodities.
– Identify, evaluate, qualify, and onboard new suppliers based on technical capability, capacity, quality systems, and commercial competitiveness.
– Float RFQs/RFPs, evaluate quotations, prepare techno-commercial comparisons, and recommend sourcing decisions.
– Negotiate pricing, payment terms, logistics, tooling investments, contracts, and long-term agreements.
– Issue purchase orders and ensure timely execution of procurement activities.

Supplier Development & Relationship Management

– Develop strategic supplier partnerships to improve quality, delivery, cost, and innovation.
– Conduct supplier capability assessments and participate in supplier audits.
– Monitor supplier performance through KPIs such as On-Time Delivery (OTD), PPM, responsiveness, and cost competitiveness.
– Drive supplier improvement plans and corrective actions in collaboration with Supplier Quality.

Cost Optimization

– Lead annual cost reduction and productivity initiatives through value engineering, localization, alternate sourcing, and process improvements.
– Perform cost breakdown analysis and benchmarking using raw material indices and market intelligence.
– Support budgeting activities and monitor Purchase Price Variance (PPV).

Technical Procurement

– Review engineering drawings, BOMs, technical specifications, and manufacturing feasibility.
– Coordinate with Engineering during product development, engineering changes, and supplier selection.
– Evaluate manufacturing processes including forging, casting, machining, fabrication, sheet metal, welding, heat treatment, coating, and assembly.

Project Management
– Support New Product Development (NPD), localization, and global sourcing projects.
– Coordinate tooling development, prototype procurement, APQP activities, PPAP approvals, and production readiness.
– Track project milestones and ensure timely supplier deliverables.
– Cross-Functional Coordination
– Work closely with Engineering, Quality, Production, Planning, Logistics, Finance, and Global Commodity Teams.
– Resolve supply chain risks, material shortages, and delivery constraints.
– Support inventory optimization while maintaining uninterrupted production.

Compliance & Governance

– Ensure procurement activities comply with company policies, ethical sourcing standards, and applicable statutory requirements.
– Maintain accurate procurement documentation and supplier records.
– Support compliance with Quality, Environmental, and Information Security Management Systems.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.

Experience

7–10 years of experience in Procurement, Strategic Sourcing, Vendor Development, or Supply Chain within the automotive or manufacturing industry.
Experience handling direct materials.
